Baby Kayla is here!

Introducing Kayla Ranay Webb
Born: July 29th, 2009 12:30pm
Weight: 9lbs 3oz
Length: 20.75 inches

Birth Story:
My due date was Tuesday, July 28th. Nothing had happened at that point as far as labor goes. I went to see the doctor for a regular OB appointment and he said I was 50% effaced and dilated 3 cm, so we could go ahead and induce if I wanted to. So, we scheduled to have me induced the next day at 7am
But at about 3:30am I woke having contractions on my own, so we went to the hospital early. Over the next couple hours the contractions increased and decreased in frequency and intensity, but stayed fairly regular. At about 7am the nurse gave me an IV of antibiotics for the baby because I have Group B strep, which is harmless to me, but could hurt the baby if she didn’t get the right medication for at least 4 hours.
Then the doctor came and broke my water. I was going to get an epidural at that point, but the anesthesiologist was busy with a C-section so I had to wait another hour. I got it around 8am though and it worked perfectly.
Meanwhile, we had taken bets with the doctor and nurses about what time the baby would be born (my family had picked times the night before). The doctor picked 12:37pm. I don’t know if that made him biased because he came back to see me about 11:30pm which was when I was fully dilated (and fully numb). I pushed for about 45 mins. And Kayla was born right at 12:30pm (So doc won the bet)
Also, since it was a routine labor, and the middle of the day, I had two nursing students and an EMT in training in the room during the birth to observe. It was quite an audience!
Kayla is a lot bigger than any of us expected (9lbs 3oz 20 inches). She has dark brown hair and I’m guessing dark blue eyes like Jared’s. I think she looks like me more than Nathan, especially with the round face.
She passed all her health tests, and is nursing well already, although she wants to eat a lot, and milk hasn’t come in yet, so she gets frustrated about that.
We’re all home now and feeling fine; except for Jared who is currently staying with grandma. He’ll be home on Saturday though and is in for a big surprise!
