June 7 - Understanding

A lot of the times I have a hard time distinquishing what things Jared should be capable of understanding and what things are he's still too young for. Most of the time I'm surprised that he doesn't understand things. Not that he's not connecting anything. He knows that when he gets set in his high chair he's going to get to eat or that being in the computer room means mommy's going to neglect him :) But he doesn't understand that if he hits himself on the head with something it will hurt. And so far he hasn't been able to attach names to anything. I can't say things like "we're going in the car" or "It's time for bed" and have him remember what that means. And he doesn't point at things he wants or wave goodbye like some of the baby developmental articles say he might be doing at his age. But we're coming along. I just need to be patient.

Today we had a nice little learning moment though. I was showing him how the light switch works. I would turn the light off and then point to the light on the celing. Then turn the swich back on and point to the celing again. He was actually looking from the switch to the light and back and forth as I turned it off and on. I think he got the connection!

Don't worry what articles say your kid could or should be doing. They have their own little timetables. Sean didn't wave until about 2 days before his birthday. I thought he would NEVER walk, but he did right before 14 months. Jared's doing great. He's such a cute and happy boy. Keep up the good work!
